Over the financial year, Global Acts of Unity continued to promote peace, tolerance, and compassion across the country.Through a series of community talks - primarily at schools, but also to government departments, faith groups, and grassroots civil society organisations - GAU empowered communities to take action against divisive forces. It did so in three ways: 1) inspiring communities through personal stories of perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity; 2) increasing awareness of disinformation that sows cynicism and division; and 3) upskilling communities so they have the tools to promote peace themselves. Feedback from community groups has been resoundingly positive.
Key stakeholders include funders, advisers, and beneficiaries. In the past, the UK Government has provided the bulk of funding to GAU through various campaigns to promote peace and counter extreme ideology. This restructured, which has led to GAU establishing itself as a charity and seeking alternative sources of funds. That said, the Government has reiterated its support for GAU, and funds are still available for the future to be applied for in varying ways.GAU has a strong team of advisers, some of whom are not directors of the CIC but are trustees of the charity. These individuals advise on key elements of the organisation's operations, including: communications, priorities, content of talks, and overarching strategy. As the organisation adapts its delivery model to respond to changing circumstances and engage more beneficiaries, the advisers are pleased with progress.Beneficiaries are resoundingly positive of the work being done by GAU, illustrated through post-event surveys.
