Leeanna’s Wish runs Coffee Morning every Tuesday for local residents particularly those over 65 years of age, Ladies Football for one 30’s, Community Nights and Saturday Club. All programmes which aim to engage and empower our beneficiaries. To promote social interaction and friendships, intergenerationally and across all cultures for community cohesion. Saturday club is the main programme for young people. Providing a safe and inclusive space for young people. Ouroverriding aim is social inclusion for minoritized groups. We are uniquely placed to identify gaps in service provision and address the barriers which impact access of services. Since incorporation in June 2021 opportunities have included cultural events in the community such as an Eid party and Jubilee event promoting community cohesion in a diverse community. low income area. The activities of Leeannas Wish have benefited the community in the following ways:*we are now an official food bank referrer meaning we can issue vouchers for those needing access to a food bank*we have provided part time employment to 3 retired local residents and a range of volunteering opportunities for others*60 young people in and around Sopwell ( identified as a deprived area) have received intervention* increased access to sport and wellbeing services for minoritised/ hard to reach groups
Leeannas Wish is focused on challenging oppressive systems, and addressing racial justice .We have an intersectional approach to serve the communities we serve. The stakeholders are residents of St. Albans and the beneficiaries of the services that are provided. The services we provide are based on self identified need and as such are adaptable to changing circumstances or as a result of feedback. The majority director of the company has lived in the Sopwell area for their entire life and developed the business model for service provision based on the self reported needs of local people. We engage in regular evaluations of service delivery. This has helped us to build up a profile of local ‘needs’ and what we can do to meet them more effectively and led to the creation of community nights and coffee morning
