Development Management Associates CIC ('DMA') is a community interest company, incorporated on 24th January 2019 under the UK Companies Act. It has a branch in Lilongwe, Malawi, where the Director resides for most of the year. DMA's work is to support particular Malawi-related institutions and activities with the intention of enhancing the development of Malawi, which means improving outcomes for the people of Malawi in areas such as governance, health, education, enterprise/economy and environment. The institutions and activities that DMA supports include: i) parts of the Government of Malawi and various Malawian non-profit organisations that are working towards the development of Malawi; ii) various international aid agencies whose resources are intended to enhance the development of Malawi; and iii) the activities of other Malawian and non-Malawian individuals and groups whose intention is to support the development of Malawi. Some of the work done by DMA is pro bono. During the period to 31/12/20, most of the income of DMA was derived from one project. That project sought to improve accountability for funds provided by the central government ofMalawi for small projects in Malawi’s local authorities. Improvements were sought through public expenditure tracking involving local authorities themselves - their officers and elected councillors - MPs, and various community groups. The impact has been to facilitate understanding of the challenges concerning the use of the resources. As a result, some of the changes have begun to be addressed. Funding for the project was provided by the UK Government’s Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) via a project calledTraction.
DMAs external stakeholders include:-parts of the Malawi government;-Malawian non-profit organisations that are working towards the development of Malawi;-international aid agencies whose resources are intended to enhance the development of Malawi;-the activities of other Malawian and non-Malawian individuals and groups whose intention is to support the development of Malawi; and- other Malawian’s who are the beneficiaries of successful development of Malawi.Notable consultations with stakeholders facilitated by DMA during the period to 31 December 2020 included administering the collection and use of data, using questionnaires and interviews with local authorities, including both their officers and elected councillors, MPs and various community groups. The response from the stakeholders consulted have been used, and continue to be used, to improve the recommendations made by DMA to stakeholders that can and will take action to improve the development of Malawi.
The Director received from DMA a salary of £6,534. In addition, the accommodation of the Director while in Malawi plus the transport to and from Malawi was paid by DMA.
