Notes to the financial statements
Year ended 31 December 2018
1.
General information
The company is a private company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. The address of the registered office is HSBC, 1 Leeming Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
2.
Statement of compliance
These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with the provisions of FRS 102, Section 1A, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland'.
3.
Accounting policies
Basis of preparation
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.
The financial statements are prepared in sterling, which is the functional currency of the entity.
Exemption has been taken from preparing a cash flow statement on the grounds that the company qualified as a small company.
Going concern
The company continues as a going concern only with support of the Bentinck Miners Welfare Scheme which has provided interest bearing loan capital finance to the company. Should the scheme withdraw that support it is unlikely that the Directors would be able to access alternative sources of the funding and the company would be unable to trade. The statements are prepared on the basis that the company will continue to have the support of the charity. The company following a major review of activities in 2008 embarked upon a series of measures designed to produce an operating surplus designed in order to eliminate the interfund debt with the charity over a seven year period. The combined surplus in the 2008-2017 period was £126,204 which vindicated the decision made by the directors. The company however, made a loss in 2018 of £2,498 which was disappointing. The principal reason was a reduction in income and the Directors will continue to review all aspects of the business to try and ensure an improvement of profitability. The interfund debt with the charity has reduced by a further£8,102 after charging the company a further interest charge of £948. Whilst this is beyond the seven year period substantial progress has been made and the interfund continues to fall.
Turnover
Turnover represents net invoiced sale of goods, excluding value added tax.
Deferred taxation
Provision is made at current rates for taxation deferred in respect of all material timing differences except to the extent that, in the opinion of the directors, there is reasonable probability that the liability will not arise in the forseeable future.
Depreciation
Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows:
Equipment
-
25 %
reducing balance
