1. | STATUTORY INFORMATION |
|
The company is a private company, limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. The company's |
registered number and registered office can be found on the Company Information page. The company is a |
registered charity number 276568. |

2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
|
Basis of preparing the financial statements |
These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Statement of Recommended |
Practice: Accounting and Reporting by Charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial |
Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland 102 (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) as updated, |
and with Financial Reporting Standard 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the |
Republic of Ireland" (FRS 102) and with the Companies Act 2006. The company is a public benefit entity for |
the purposes of FRS 102.The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention. |

This is the first year for which FRS 102 has been adopted in preparing the financial statements. There were no |
adjustments required on transition to FRS 102. |
|
Income recognition |
Income represents sponsorship, grants, ticket sales and other income receivable for the year. Income is included |
when the company is entitled to the income, the receipt of the income is considered probable and the amount can |
be measured reliably. |
|
Tangible fixed assets |
Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less depreciation. |
|
Depreciation is calculated to write off the assets over their estimated useful lives at the following annual rate: |

Investment income |
Investment income is recognised on the accruals basis. |

Expenditure |
Expenditure is recognised on the accruals basis when there is a legal or constructive obligation to make payment |
to a third party and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure on charitable activities |
comprises the costs of the Brighton Science Festival and associated events, including related support costs. |
